Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What should I expect during my first visit?

At your first visit, the Massage Therapist will review, with you, the Health History Form that you filled in on our website in advance of your treatment. We will then discuss the appropriate treatment based on the information you provide us. This is also your opportunity to ask us questions. Together, we will develop a personalized treatment protocol and begin your massage therapy treatment.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my appointment?

Come to your appointment with a relatively empty stomach. During your massage, blood normally involved in digestion will be drawn to the areas being massaged. If you have had a large meal you may feel uncomfortable and suffer poor digestion. Also, it is a good idea to visit the washroom just prior to your appointment.

Should I be completely undressed for the treatment?

Most of the massage treatment and techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed how ever, it is entirely up to you what to wear. We ask that you undress to the level of your comfort. You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. The Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)will leave the room while you undress and relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet. Upon knocking, they will enter the room when you are ready.

You and the RMT will discuss the desired outcome of the sessions, along with your health history form, this will determine which parts of your body will require massage.

A typical full body massage will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck and shoulders. You will not be touched in the genital area.

What will the massage feel like?

It depends on the techniques being utilized by the RMT. Many massage therapists use a form of Sweedish Massage which is often a baseline for technique. In a general Sweedish Massage you session will begin with broad flowing techniques that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin.

You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach can be taken.

How long will the session last?

The massage treatment time will allow for you to disrobe and relax on the table as well as discuss your treatment. Essentially, the actual massage time will be 50 minutes of a 60 minutes session.

What should I do during the massage treatment?

Relax – this is your time to enjoy and focus on your well being. While it is perfectly fine to dialog with the therapist during your massage we advise on limiting conversation so that you are able to relax more freely.

Do I need to talk during my massage?

It’s up to you. If you want silence during your massage, just let us know. We will, though, require some information from you during the massage when releasing trigger points or to determine how much pressure is acceptable for you. How will I feel after my massage? You will feel very relaxed. Some people experience freedom from long-term aches and pains. After the initial period of feeling slowed down and possibly tender, you will most likely experience increased energy, heightened awareness, greater productivity, and increased range of motion.

How will I feel after the massage treatment?

With our therapeutic massage techniques in addition to feeling relaxed you will also feel somewhat fatigued. The benefits of your massage treatment will last for hours so we encourage you to drink plenty of water after the treatment.

After my massage, is there anything I special I need to do?

Sometimes we recommend a bath with Epsom salts to calm and sooth muscles and to enhance the benefits of massage. We may also recommend stretches that will help your treatment progress. Drink plenty of water. Massage therapy releases toxins from your soft tissue and drinking lots of water will help flush them from your body.

I’m 8 months pregnant and unable to lie on my stomach. Can I still get a massage?

Yes! We use a specially designed cushion that allows Mom-To-Be to lie either on her side or in the prone position (face-down) safely and comfortably.

Can I tip my Therapist?

Tipping is ALWAYS appreciated but never requested.

Note:

Benefits Coverage

Did you know that your benefits plan may cover massage therapy treatments? Many policies now offer the employee, and in some cases their spouse and family members, a certain annual allowance for massage therapy. We strongly recommend you check with your benefits coordinator to find what your annual allowance is and what further requirements are required. All our therapists are RMT's (Registered Massage Therapists) and can provide valid receipts for insurance claims. Please contact us for more details.
